YOUR INFORMATION RESOURCE - for pre-employment screening

Court Case Information Back Online In Lancaster County, NE

If you want to check the recent criminal history of a prospective employee, tenant, prom date for your daughter or so on, there is once again a free online source for information.

The Lancaster County Attorney's online court case search database, which went dark at the beginning of the year, is back up and running.

The criminal case look-up function was taken down when a new case management system was put in place in the county attorney's office.

But the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners authorized as much as $6,500 to build a code that will allow for public Web access to the new system.

So people can again go to the county attorney's Web site, type in a name and find information about past and upcoming court dates, charges, verdicts and sentences.

Now, information is available only up to Dec. 31, when the system change went into effect.

But Terry Lowe, systems coordinator for the city of Lincoln, said the $6,500 will cover the approximately 80 hours needed to write the code into the new system that is in use. He said he hopes the system will have up-to-date information accessible to the public by mid-February.

"There's a lot of people interested in the data," Lowe said.

According to city data, the Web site had more than 100,000 hits each month for the first six months of last year.
